An officer from the Darien Police Department reported that shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, a driver was spotted failing to fully stop at a stop sign at the intersection at Middlesex Road and Hoyt Street.
The driver, Stamford resident Christopher Russo, then proceeded to cross over the double yellow line, prompting the officer to stop him on Hoyt Street near Camp Avenue.
According to the officer, Russo had “a glassy redness to his eyes,” and he said that he “immediately detected a strong odor of an alcohol beverage” inside the car when he spoke with him.
During the stop, Russo admitted to drinking and apologized for driving. After failing multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and refusing a breathalyzer, he was arrested and transported to Darien Police Headquarters.
Russo was charged with operating under the influence and cited for failure to drive on the right side of the road. He was released on a $50 bond and scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday, Nov. 8.
